Interviewers who want to know if you’ve taken the time to research their company will often toss this question in. If you’re ill-prepared, they’ll spot it.
“I really like your company,” is not enough of an answer.
Before your interview, take some time to get to know more about the company. Review their “News/Media” page to see what they are doing that they consider to be newsworthy. If they have a blog, read it. Dig in!
As you learn about the company, consider the following:
- Is there something you admire about the way they do business? (environmentally-friendly, ground-breaking initiatives, front-runners in their industry, humanitarian initiatives, etc.)
- Do you share common values with the company?
- Do the job responsibilities of the job align with your personal interests or hobbies? (For example, an athlete applying for a job with a fitness company, a furniture maker applying with a lumber company, etc.)
Once you’ve done your homework, you can deliver an answer that:
- Shows the interviewer you’ve researched the company,
- You are a great fit for their corporate culture and/or mission, and
- Have skills and experience that will support the company’s goals.
