The Athletic is a subscription sports newsroom producing in-depth coverage across major leagues and markets.
In this role, you’ll use data analysis and statistics to support reporting, publish data visualizations, and help build interactive projects and applications. You’ll also advise on statistical conclusions and how data is interpreted editorially.
This is a remote role open to U.S. and Canada–based candidates; proximity to The Athletic’s New York City office is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities
- Use data and analysis to communicate reporting more clearly
- Publish clear, compelling data visualizations
- Imagine and build interactive projects and applications
- Consult and advise on statistics and editorial conclusions from data
Relevant Experience & Skills
- Experience working with data/statistics, including communicating uncertainty/causality/forecasting
- Experience conceiving, prototyping, and deploying interactive projects (end-to-end)
- Demonstrated excellence publishing data visualizations for mass audiences
- Experience with design tools (Figma or Adobe Creative Suite)
Compensation & Benefits
The expected compensation for this role is $110,000 – 180,000/yr.
